BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma Performing Arts Practice, delivered by SCL Creative College.
This BTEC Level 3 Foundation/Extended Diploma (equivalent to 3 A-levels) is a 2 year, full time education programme based within The Worx Academy learning site where we specialise in Commercial Dance and Musical Theatre. This study programme is worth up to 168 UCAS points (DDD*).
Learners will apply to SCL Creative College and then enrol to a local Education partner. The study programme will be delivered by SCL Creative College highly trained professional artists and performing arts teachers within the Worx Academy learning site, a professional, purpose-built dance and performing arts studio.
SCL Creative College staff will be responsible for managing the quality assurance of the BTEC education programme and ensure learners maximise their true potential and achieve the highest grades possible working closely with the performing arts specialists.
All learners will be entitled to the same privileges as any Further Education learner; for example, student bursaries (if eligible), UCAS guidance, pastoral care, education support, FE enrichment programmes and GCSE re-sit opportunities (if required).

Learners will also take part in a full enrichment, industry specific training programme running parallel within their BTEC programme. This will add value to their learning experience as they will take part in a variety of dance and musical theatre disciplines. Learners will have the opportunity to take part in nationwide performances including Can You Dance, professional pantomimes and Move It! and our very own End of Year Show, at The Sunderland Empire Theatre.
Learners will be required to audition for this education programme and must achieve 5 GCSEs grade 4 and above (including maths and English). If successful at audition, learners will simply apply to SCL Creative College and our local education partner.
As part of this BTEC level 3, learners will be assessed through practical performances, rehearsals, training sessions, controlled assessments and assignments.
This BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma in Dance will allow learners to progress onto university and/or apply to specialist performing arts schools.
SCL Creative College are offering a unique qualification to help you develop, excel and pursue a career in the performing arts industry, based in our wonderful Worx Academy studios.
At the end of this education programme it will enable you to audition directly for advanced training in the performing arts industry to specialist schools or apply for performing arts degree programmes. As part of this specialist BTEC level 3 qualification learners will have a true vocational and professional learning experience by working, training and performing alongside professional artists throughout the programme.
The course has a strong focus on practical activity with high level, comprehensive, pure dance and musical theatre training delivered by experienced performing arts specialists and artists.
You will develop your technique, artistic understanding and overall fitness to prepare you for a career in professional dance & musical theatre performance and/or teaching.
You’ll gain experience of a range of specialisms such Musical Theatre (including singing, drama and audition technique), Classical Ballet, Contemporary Dance, Choreography, Commercial, Street, Tap and Jazz, all of which will develop you as a versatile artist.
In addition, you’ll study core units linked to professional dance and musical theatre practice including the study of performing arts business, the investigation into practitioner’s work, group performance workshops and performing in the community.
You will be assessed in many ways including video evidence of your training and practical performances, assessor witness testimonies, work diary and log books, peer observations, self-assessments, written reports, assignments and work experience.
